Behind the Scenes
As we enter our fifth year of Grand Tour coverage, I want to provide a view of what goes into the production of each race and explain our new pricing model. First, production...
- 400+ hours of developing new features and supporting the latest phones.
- 63 days of cycling coverage each year, about 5 hours each day.
- 315 hours of monitoring the system and providing live coverage.
- 63 days of leasing race servers, databases and distribution networks.
- 63 days of licensing race content beyond what we produce each day.
- 4 hours per stage creating the maps and profiles = 252 hours.
- 2 hours per team collecting rosters, headshots, biographies = 126 hours.
In other words, a ton of work, time and money goes into every stage of every tour. So we surveyed our users on pricing, and while the average recommendation was $5, we decided to offer two levels of service:
- The PRO upgrade gives you the top 95% of the features in the app - over 100 in all - for less than 5 cents per stage.
- The TEAM upgrade provides additional exclusive features - including our new fantasy cycling game - for less than 10 cents per stage.
The TEAM upgrade is also a response to long-time users who asked for a way to provide extra support to keep the app going.
And even if you don't choose to upgrade, you can still access stage & team details, standings and all content for past races.
